Relevant education is one that is responsive to the needs of the times. Substandard education is bred not only through the lack of competent educators but also through the lack of instructional materials that inspire greater learning.
FELTA Multimedia Inc. was the brainchild of Felicito and Teresita Abiva in 1966 with the aim of providing the academe with instructional materials that answer the needs of the times. What started with importing full-color textbooks and instructional materials is now a thriving business engaged in the manufacture and distribution of educational courseware, laboratory equipment/ apparatus, on-line courses, and the exclusive distributor of LEGO Education in the Philippines.
Mylene Abiva, President/ CEO , since 2000 is the pioneer in introducing LEGO Robotics in elementary and High schools in the country. “LEGO Education offered the distribution of LEGO Robotics to us in 2000. At a time when the Asian Crisis was in full swing, we were clueless on how to market an expensive and technologically intimidating product in the school market”, Mylene says. “The LEGO Education even said that the Philippines was not ready for this kind of technology” Mylene added. “ I was challenged … I organized the Philippine Robotics Olympiad, which is an inter-school Robotics competition using LEGO Robotics kits. We started with 8 participating schools and to date, in 2008 alone ,over 300 schools competed nationwide. We send the winners of the Philippine Robotics Olympiad to represent our country to the World Robot Olympiad. We had many achievements, a silver medal in 2002, the first year we joined WRO, a bronze medal in 2004,consecutive gold medals in 2006 and 2007 and a silver medal in 2008. Competing with over 19 countries including Japan, China, Korea, Russia, United Arab Emirates, etc. We are honored to have won the bid to host the World Robot Olympiad 2010 in Manila to be participated in by over 1,000 children ages 10-18 years old from 23 countries.
It is our mission to secure relevant and world-class educational materials for Filipino students. We have brilliant and resilient learners who are at par with students from our technology driven neighbors.
